Unity has released official plugins for Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex. The game engine from US company Unity Technologies is among the most widely used in the world and is primarily used to develop 2D and 3D games for PC, consoles, and smartphones. The plugins equip the coding agents with skills that the respective Unity teams write and maintain. The Codex version launches with 31 skills for user interfaces, 2D graphics, the URP render pipeline, audio, navigation, physics, in-app purchases, multiplayer, and localization.

One skill sets up new projects complete with editor, version control, and packages, while another migrates older projects to URP. According to Unity, general-purpose agents typically rely on forum posts and tutorials for outdated engine versions, whose code may compile but often doesn’t work as intended. The plugins run on Unity 6 and up and can be installed with a click in the Codex plugin directory and via npm in Claude Code.

Language models are increasingly controlling complex software, especially in game development. The 3D program Blender was among the first applications that could be operated via language model through Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol. Now models like Know3D shape 3D objects via text commands, while World Labs generates entire 3D scenes with Atlas from just a few images.
