Key Points

Suno has released its new v6 model generation with partners including Warner Music, replacing all previous versions of the platform in three variants for subscribers and free users.

  • The multimodal models generate songs from text, audio, image, or video. Individual song parts can now be edited directly through text commands, and elements from different sources can be combined.
  • Suno continues to keep details about the training data it used secret. While Warner now acts as a partner after a settlement, Universal and Sony are continuing their lawsuits against the company.

Suno is rolling out its new model generation in three versions and shutting down all its older models. What v6 learned from, the company won’t say.

Suno built v6 with Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe, CEO and cofounder Mikey Shulman writes in a blog post. The models are faster, more expressive, and higher quality than their predecessors, he says.

The flagship v6 targets paying Pro and Premier subscribers and promises reliable, precisely polished music across all genres. The v6-wild version is also limited to subscribers and built for experimentation. Suno says it’s less predictable and delivers unexpected, texture-rich results that can serve as a starting point for further editing. The third model, v6-mini, is free for all users and is meant to be faster and more efficient than any other free model on a music platform.

All three models understand more musical building blocks than before, from vocals, instrumentation, and song structure to mood and references. With the rollout, Suno is pulling its older models and moving the platform entirely to the new generation. Suno’s most recent release was the interim v5.5 update with a voice-cloning feature in March, and the last major model generation was v5 in September 2025.

Editing songs with text commands

Suno v6 can change individual parts of an existing song through text input without touching the rest, for example to have just the chorus sung by a gospel choir. Users can also combine mashups from several sources in a single request, such as the vocals from one song with the drums from another and new lyrics in the style of ’80s synthwave.

v6 processes voice recordings, videos, and images into a single song using a single prompt.

Users can also isolate a sample and build a new beat from it, or generate a song from a mood, a genre, or a mix of inspirations. v6 works multimodally, so users can generate a song from text, audio, images, or video. Individual lyric lines can be changed too, without regenerating the entire track.

What Suno won’t say about training

Suno calls the three partners codevelopers but gives no details on which catalogs were used or how much material went in. Fittingly, Suno had asked the US District Court in Massachusetts to keep the exact size of its training data under seal, arguing that competitors could infer its development approach from it.

The safeguards Suno cites for the launch were already announced in August. They include dropping artist names from training metadata, checking uploaded audio files and lyrics for unauthorized use, and a download policy against the mass distribution of songs on streaming platforms.

As a next step, Suno is planning offerings built around individual artists. Artists decide for themselves whether to take part and get paid if they do, while fans get new ways to connect with them. Songs made with the partner model will be distributable through Believe and TuneCore going forward.

Warner caves first, Universal and Sony keep suing

The partnerships trace back to the settlement with Warner Music. The label settled its legal dispute with Suno in November 2025, and in return Suno committed to licensed successor models. Universal took a similar path with Suno rival Udio, with BMG and Believe following in August and early September.

Universal and Sony, on the other hand, remain plaintiffs in the case the RIAA coordinated in June 2024. Suno asked the court to keep the exact size of its training data under seal and, in parallel, raised $400 million in June at a $5.4 billion valuation.

In Germany, the Munich Regional Court I found Suno liable for copyright infringement in late July, ruling that six musical works are reproducibly embedded in the version 3.5 and 4 models.

By its own count, more than 100 million people have created songs with Suno so far. The company reports over two million paying subscribers and topped $300 million in annual recurring revenue in February.
